Kahnawą:ke Residency Law: Second Hearing Concluded

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission wishes to advise the community that the Second Hearing held on 17 Ohiarķha/June 2026, for amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Residency Law, has concluded. Consensus has been reached that the Law reflects all amendments agreed to at the First Heating. There were no objections or abstentions.
Phase II Hearings are now complete. The next steps include:
- A Legislative Session whereby the Technical Drafting Committee (TDC) will present their Implementation/Operational/Financial Plans to the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs along with a Legal Review completed by MCK Legal Services. Following that,
- the TDC will Read the Law into the Record which will be filmed and publicized, as well as signing of the Certification of the Process.
Phase III - The Law:
- Will be brought to a Legislative Session for enactment via Mohawk Council Resolution and Confirmation of the Will of the People will be signed, and,
- Will come into force once published.
