Two Regulations under the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act Repealed and Replaced

05/01/2025

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to advise the community that Regulation 1: Eligibility Criteria for Judges and Regulation 2: Selection Process for Judges under the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act were repealed via Mohawk Council Resolution (MCR # 1/2025-2026). The numerous revisions required to render these regulations operational warranted that they be repealed and replaced.

They were respectively replaced with the Regulation Respecting Eligibility Criteria for Appointment of Judges of the Court of Kahnawà:ke and the Regulation Respecting the Selection and Appointment of Judges of the Court of Kahnawà:ke.

The replacement regulations were enacted via individual Mohawk Council Executive Directives (MCED #10/2025-2026 and MCED #11/2025-2026) at a duly convened Council meeting held on 28 Onerahtókha/April 2025.

The official version of the two (2) regulations have been published on the Kahnawà:ke Community Decision Making and Review Process website, www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com and are now in-force.
