Membership Law: Special Community Consultation announced for ‘Group 3’

04/19/2013

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to inform community members that a special Community Consultation meeting is being called to continue deliberations and discussions with the goal of reaching consensus on the first section of the amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law.

At the meeting of Tuesday, 16 Onerahtókha/April, Group 3 failed to reach consensus. The KLCC has addressed concerns regarding the length of time that is needed to reach consensus by calling for a special meeting for any persons who have been part of Group 3 discussions for any of the previous consultations.

“Because the group will be able to concentrate its efforts with what we hope will be less pressure, we hope to help move things along,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn Miller. “We will attempt to reach as many people as possible through whatever means necessary. Others will, hopefully, see this message or pass the word along to anyone they know who participated in Group 3.”

This special meeting will be held on Wednesday, 24 Onerahtókha/April from 6pm to 8:30pm at the MCK main offices. Due to the circumstances, the KLCC is urging people to arrive between 5:45 and 5:55pm in order to address logistical concerns and start the meeting on time.

Participants are strongly urged to view the relevant documents and information online at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com or at the Membership Office (located at the Social Development Unit).
