IMPORTANT: Mandate Meeting for Election Law RESCHEDULED

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that the Community Mandate Meeting for proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law has been rescheduled.

The meeting, initially scheduled for June 10th, has now been moved to Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Golden Age Club from 5pm to 8pm.

At the meeting, the community will be asked for the following:

  1. A mandate to amend the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law through the CDMRP
  2. Selection of three (3) Community Representatives to sit on the Technical Drafting Committee

The proposed amendments include:

  • Ensuring consistency with other Kahnawą:ke laws;
  • Streamlining processes including selection of the Electoral Officer;
  • Proposed amendments from community members regarding Council composition, vacancies in Council and an alternative election structure.

Should a Mandate to amend be obtained, the community will be notified of the date for the First Hearing to move the Law through the Community Decision Making and Review Process.

Interested persons must be recognized on the Kanien’kehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke Registry and should confirm their attendance by contacting Lana Snow, Executive Assistant, Executive Office, at 450-632-7500 or by email at lana.snow@mck.ca. Walk-ins are welcome.

Refreshments will be available. Meals will be provided for those who are registered.
